Display of 30kg and 1kg Silver Bars Highlights Hindustan Zinc’s Diverse Portfolio

New Delhi, April 29, 2025Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), India’s only and one of the world’s top five silver producers, was recognized as the Largest Integrated Silver Manufacturer in India for 2024 at the India Silver Conference 2025 held in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This accolade highlights Hindustan Zinc’s strategic focus, operational excellence, and its growing capacity to meet the increasing global demand for silver driven by clean energy transitions.

At its exhibition, Hindustan Zinc showcased London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) certified 99.99% pure 30kg and 1kg silver bars, alongside Galena ore, sourced from its Sindesar Khurd mine—ranked among the world’s top five silver-producing mines.

20-Fold Growth in Silver Production Since Vedanta Acquisition

The conference commenced with a keynote address by Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, who emphasized the strengthening demand for silver and the company’s high-capacity strategic initiatives. Silver’s pivotal role in sectors like solar energy, high-end electronics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, biotechnology, jewelry, and medical diagnostics was highlighted, showcasing the metal’s importance in next-generation technologies.

Since its disinvestment and acquisition by Vedanta in 2002, Hindustan Zinc has recorded an extraordinary 20-fold increase in silver production. Before the acquisition, India’s silver supply relied heavily on imports; today, Hindustan Zinc stands as a pillar of India’s self-reliance in precious metal production.

Arun Misra stated,

“At Hindustan Zinc, we take immense pride in being global leaders in silver production. Our strategic positioning enables us to meet the growing demand for this versatile metal. With silver prices reaching historic highs, the metal has emerged as a key driver of the clean energy transition. At our Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand, our refined silver is produced using 100% renewable energy, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable and responsible manufacturing.”

Innovations, Sustainability, and Future-Ready Vision

This year’s conference brought together industry leaders to discuss evolving macroeconomic trends shaping the silver ecosystem. During a panel discussion, Vijay Murthy, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at Hindustan Zinc, elaborated on the increasing relevance of silver across critical sectors.

The Hindustan Zinc pavilion, themed “At the Core of Clean Energy,” was a major attraction at the conference, featuring an innovative immersive 3D booth offering virtual tours of the world’s largest underground zinc mining operation in Bhilwara and the world’s largest lead-zinc smelter in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.

Hindustan Zinc’s silver bars and powder comply with international standards, and the company’s Pantnagar metal plant is recognized under LBMA’s Responsible Silver Guidance Framework for ethical sourcing and sustainable production.

Recognized by S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2024 as the world’s most sustainable metal and mining company, Hindustan Zinc has set industry benchmarks for environmental and social governance. The company holds a 77% share in India’s primary zinc market, supplies products to over 40 countries, and has introduced Ecozin, Asia’s first low-carbon green zinc brand produced using renewable energy.
