Several people, including a state trooper, were injured in a shooting incident that began in Fayette County and ended at a church in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday, according to authorities.
As per news agency AP, the shooting spree started at 11:36 am (local time) when a state trooper was shot in Fayette County. The suspect then fled the scene and arrived at Richmond Road Baptist Church in southwest Lexington, where a second shooting occurred, injuring multiple individuals.
Kentucky State Police confirmed on social media that the suspect was eventually killed, though details about the circumstances of the death have not been released.
The identity of the shooter has not been disclosed yet, as per the AP.
Governor Andy Beshear acknowledged the series of violent events, confirming on social media that “the trooper and others are being treated at a nearby hospital,” and said the full scope of injuries was still being determined. “Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let’s give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police,” he said, as per AP.
Kentucky State Police spokeswoman Sherry H Bray was quoted by The New York Times that the injured trooper was receiving medical attention.
Authorities have not yet clarified whether this incident was connected to another shooting reported Sunday at Blue Grass Airport, also located in Lexington.
