Vice President JD Vance reacted to the AI-generated image of President Donald Trump dressed as the Pope, as the image has sent a shockwave among Catholics. JD Vance was asked to comment on the "disrespect and mockery" by Bill Kristol, a former chief of staff of former vice president Dan Quayle in the George W Bush administration.
JD Vance replied and said: "I'm fine with people telling jokes and not fine with people starting stupid wars that kill thousands of my countrymen." The comment was a jibe at Kristol for his role in the Bush administration's decision to invade Iraq in 2003.
JD's reply invited a volley of attack -- both for his indifference to the photo and also for the war point that he tried to make.
Kristol clapped back and said: "And I'm fine with people who do really care what happens to Ukraine one way or another, and with people who don't support the AfD"
Trump's AI image as Pope
As the mourning for Pope Francis continues, President Trump posted an AI image of himself dressed a the Pope on Friday night. He posted the photo on his Truth Social account which was reposted by the official X account of the White House.
Even MAGA supporters slammed the photo and said it reeked of disrespect.
Former Italian Premier Matteo Renzi said the image was shameful. “This is an image that offends believers, insults institutions and shows that the leader of the right-wing world enjoys clowning around,” Renzi wrote on X. “Meanwhile, the US economy risks recession and the dollar loses value. The sovereignists are doing damage, everywhere.”
Trump earlier joked that he would like to be pope, but he is not a Catholic. And then came the photo of Trump as Pope.
Vice President JD Vance, who is Catholic and was one of the last foreign officials to meet with Francis before the pope died, also joked about Secretary of State Marco Rubio becoming pope, suggesting Rubio could add it to the long list of titles he holds, including national security adviser and acting archivist.
