Ecuador rocked by 6.3 magnitude earthquake

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck northwestern Ecuador early on Friday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).


The quake hit the border province of Esmeraldas at a depth of 35 kilometres, around 6:45am local time (11:45 GMT). Residents across the region, including in the capital Quito, reported feeling the tremors.

There are no casualties known as of now.
