Air India, IndiGo operate 24 flights to and from Kathmandu on Thursday; fly about 2,800 passengers

NEW DELHI: Air India and IndiGo operated 12 flights each between India (mostly Delhi) and Kathmandu on Thursday, ferrying about 2,800 passengers on them. AI operated a Delhi-Kathmandu-Delhi flight on Wednesday night, on which about 300 people flew.

All of Air India’s flights on Wednesday and Thursday were between Delhi and Kathmandu. IndiGo operated three return flights between Delhi and Kathmandu and one between Mumbai and Kathmandu. It also operated a Delhi-Kathmandu-Visakhapatnam-Tirupati-Delhi charter-cum-additional commercial flight.

Soon after the Kathmandu Airport had reopened on Wednesday, union aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu had said on X: “Due to airport closure in Nepal, many home-bound passengers were unable to return from Kathmandu. With the opening of the airport operation in Kathmandu, aviation ministry, in coordination with Air India & IndiGo, has arranged additional flights (Wednesday) evening & over the next few days, alongside scheduled services resuming tomorrow. Airlines have been advised to keep their fares within reasonable levels. We remain committed to supporting our passengers while ensuring their safe travel during this time.”

AI and IndiGo had made arrangements to operate flights to Kathmandu, both for flying people to Nepal and also fly home stranded Indian tourists there.
