NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated 'friend' Donald Trump on historic election victory in the United Stated presidential elections.
"Heartiest congratulations my friend Donald Trump on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership," PM Modi tweeted.
"Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity," he added.

Earlier, Trump addressed his supporters expressing gratitude for providing Republicans a significant mandate, and indicated this period would aid national reconciliation.
"I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president, and your 45th president," he said.

"America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate. We have taken back control of the Senate – wow that's good," Trump declared to his supporters in Florida.
He stated this period would assist the nation's recovery.
Based on projections, Trump is positioned to secure 270 electoral college votes , preventing Harris from winning the election.
According to Associated Press tallies until 1 pm, Republican nominee Trump had secured 267 electoral votes whilst Democratic Party's Harris received 214.
"And the Senate races in Montana, Nevada, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania were all won by the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement they helped so much," Trump said.
"The number of victories in the Senate was absolutely incredible," he continued.
"I will fight for you with every breath in my body, will not rest until we have delivered strong, safe and prosperous America," Trump declared.
