NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old woman in Dehradun allegedly died after a bandage was left inside her abdomen during childbirth at a private hospital, officials said on Wednesday.
A four-member committee headed by Chief Medical Officer Manoj Sharma has been constituted to probe the case. The inquiry was ordered after the woman’s husband, Prajjwal Pal , filed a complaint seeking action against the hospital and its doctors, reported PTI.
According to Pal’s complaint, his wife, Jyoti Pal, gave birth to a son through a cesarean section at the Eye and Mother Care Centre in January this year. It is alleged that during the procedure, doctors left a bandage inside her abdomen and stitched it up.
A few days after delivery, Jyoti began experiencing intense abdominal pain. She was taken back to the same hospital, but doctors reportedly failed to identify the cause of her discomfort.
As her condition deteriorated, Jyoti was shifted to another hospital, where medical examinations revealed that a bandage had been left inside her abdomen, causing a severe infection.
Despite treatment, Jyoti succumbed to the infection. The probe committee is expected to submit its findings soon.
