Though Yu Fei is undefeated in their last 13 matches, Sindhu troubled her on Thursday. Sindhu looked in great touch against the former Olympic champion and even led 14-12 in the third game, but lack of confidence cost her the match.

Despite the loss, Sindhu will be pleased with her performance against Yu. Eighth-seeded Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand proved no match for Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian of China, losing 8-21, 10-21. Jia, the reigning Olympic and world champion, has a new partner this year.
