What happened between Luis Arraez and Mauricio Dubon? When the Padres’ designated hitter, Luis Arraez made a strong attempt to reach first base in the first inning between the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros, he was met with Astros’ second baseman Mauricio Dubon.

What happened next was quite unexpected. Both players collided on the first base, with Arraez’s head getting in contact with Dubon’s shoulder. Arraez fell to the ground immediately, raising concern amongst players from both teams.

The medical staff arrived and Arraez was taken off the field immediately. The game was paused for 11 minutes and was resumed thereafter. Though Luis did give a positive update on his injuries, it raises questions on MLB’s field condition and players’ safety during the game.

Many fans even expressed their concern over the same issue as this is not the first time players have collided on the first base. Previously, Alan Roden & Rowdy Tellez collided on field during the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners game. Will MLB take any measures to protect their players?
