Cobee Bryant surprises Falcons with early rise after going undrafted

Send Push

The Atlanta Falcons did not have a lot of picks in the NFL Draft , but they might have discovered an extra-special player anyway. Once the draft was over, they signed Kansas cornerback Cobee Bryant as an undrafted rookie. Now, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris is singing the praises of the undrafted rookie, saying he is a standout and a real discovery. Cobee Bryant wasn’t picked in the draft, which surprised many. But Atlanta was quick to bring him in and they’re already seeing why that move could pay off.

Cobee Bryant shines after going undrafted out of Kansas

Cobee Bryant was among the best players at Kansas during his university career. He played four years as a starter. He concluded his university career with 13 interceptions and demonstrated good cover skills.

A few prognosticators thought Bryant might be drafted as high as the fifth round. So when he wasn't drafted at all, eyebrows were raised. Yet, the Falcons didn't wait.

They had him come in for a pre-draft visit and were impressed. Once the draft was completed, they quickly signed him as an undrafted free agent .

Coach Morris indicated that Bryant's experience and playing against strong opponents in college impressed the team. "We were fortunate enough to be able to bring him here on a 30 visit and to get a chance to meet with him and get around him and really find some real interest and be able to grow," Morris stated.

Cobee Bryant could start next to A.J. Terrell

The Falcons have one quality cornerback in A.J. Terrell, but they need another at the position. That's where Bryant might fit in. If he holds up in training camp and preseason, he may work his way into a rotation role or even a starting position on defense.

Raheem Morris thinks Bryant can make the jump into the NFL. "I knew what he could do. I knew what he was capable of," Morris said. "Whoever we were competing with [to sign him] basically didn't have a chance."
