Zaheer Khan drops big verdict on Mayank Yadav's dip in bowling speed

NEW DELHI: Former India pacer and Lucknow Super Giants mentor Zaheer Khan expressed optimism about Mayank Yadav 's bowling speed improving with more IPL appearances.

During Sunday's match, Mayank, who had recently returned from a lengthy injury break due to back and toe issues, claimed two wickets whilst bowling at around 140 kmph, comparatively lower than his usual speed of 150-155 kmph.

"The wait was long and for anyone who is playing after so many months to get back into the game, (it) is always that one hurdle which one needs to cross as a bowler," Zaheer shared with the media following LSG's 54-run defeat to MI.

"I am happy with the way he has bowled. It's important that he had to get through the game.

"He stayed on (for) the (full) 20 overs. He has bowled four overs. The execution is only going to get better. The speed is only going to get better as he plays more, that's the way I am looking at it."

Zaheer detailed LSG's careful approach to Mayank's return, ensuring proper comfort and environment.

The team maintained regular communication with the National Cricket Academy regarding his recovery progress.

Regarding team strategy, Zaheer confirmed LSG would maintain their overseas batting line-up of Nicholas Pooran , Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram , emphasising their focus on achieving a fearless approach.

"The freedom of expression is something which we have been talking about. All of us have been making that conscious effort of creating that fearless approach. That is something which as a group we have been trying to achieve," he added.

Mumbai Indians' Naman Dhir, who contributed a quick 25 runs, attributed their five-match winning streak to consistently meeting performance targets.
