The dhoti is making a bold comeback, blending tradition with modern flair. Once a symbol of heritage, it’s now strutting down runways and city streets with contemporary cuts, vibrant fabrics, and fusion pairings. “Dhotis are trending with modern twists,” says designer Debarun Mukherjee, adding, “They honour heritage while embracing innovation.” As India balances modernity with tradition, the dhoti — breathable, and stylish — is being rediscovered as a symbol of cultural pride & fashion-forward thinking.


Dhoti goes chic
The traditional dhoti is increasingly being embraced by stars like Monami Ghosh, Swastika Mukherjee and Iman Chakraborty. “Women are now experimenting with their ethnic wear, pairing comfortable dhotis with their go-to kurtis for a chic, modern twist. Even the timeless saree is being reimagined, draped with innovative flair,” says designer Abhisek Roy.
