Udupi: Noting the possibility of higher than average rainfall this time, minister of women and child development Laxmi Hebbalkar instructed precautionary measures to prevent any loss of life or property. As the rainy season begins, the minister held a meeting with district-level officials at DC's office to discuss the necessary measures and ensure adequate drinking water supply. She instructed removal of hazardous trees and plants before the onset of monsoon.
Measures should be taken for the construction of all-weather roads, with Rs 8 crore allocated for this purpose. Maintenance of electricity poles and the release of necessary funds will be ensured, the minister stated. Even a small amount of rain causes issues in the city, and all departments must take responsibility and work together. The chief minister already gave directions through video conference regarding monsoon management, minister Hebbalkar mentioned.
With predictions of heavy rainfall this year, full-time vigilance is required during the rainy season to prevent loss of life. A task force should be formed and activated for this purpose, the minister emphasised. There are minor drinking water issues in only three villages, and necessary action should be taken, she instructed. Officials were ordered to visit locations to assess situations and implement preventive measures. Maintenance of electricity poles and inspection of anganwadis and school buildings should be conducted to avoid any danger, she said.
During the event, laptops and various departmental benefits were distributed to students who scored the highest marks in SSLC examination. The meeting was attended by deputy commissioner K Vidya Kumari, superintendent of police Dr K Arun, zilla panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, and other district-level officials.
