Kanpur: Family members of Shubham Dwivedi met district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Monday, and handed him a memorandum with a demand to grant martyr status to Shubham, who died in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam (Kashmir) on April 22.
Shubham's wife Aishanya, said, "My husband showed exemplary valour during the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, and sacrificed his life. During the initial moments of the attack, he was the first to get martyred, which gave other tourists an opportunity to flee from the spot."
Aishanya said, her late husband's sacrifice and courage saved several lives, therefore, he should be given the status of a martyr. Sanjay Dwivedi, Shubham's father, said, "My son is gone, but the govt should now give him due respect."
To recall, on April 22, at least 26 tourists were killed in Pahalgam's Baisaran in Jammu and Kashmir. Shubham Dwivedi from Kanpur was among those who were killed by the terrorists.
