Lucknow: A law student has lodged an FIR with the Chowk police, alleging that he has been honey trapped by a gang of extortionists, who are demanding Rs 51 lakh for not releasing his doctored videos on social media.
The 25-year-old law student stated in his complaint that he is currently pursuing law and belongs to a respected family—his uncle also serves as a local corporator.
According to the victim, around two months ago, he received a friend request on Snapchat from a user named ‘Sumbul_Kamaal,' who claimed to be a BCom student at National PG College. The victim, who often accepts such requests to increase his Snapchat score, began chatting with her.
"They remained in casual contact until Feb 11, when Sumbul insisted on meeting him in person," the FIR stated.
The victim recounted that after dropping his mother at Gol Darwaza market that day, he met Sumbul near Radhe Lal Sweets. She entered his car and requested they move to a nearby parking lot. Once there, she allegedly began undressing, and before he could react, six armed men appeared, banged on his car windows, and threatened to frame him in a false case unless he paid up. Fearing for his life, the victim handed over Rs 10,000, the victim stated in his FIR.
On Feb 27, the miscreants threatened to release an obscene video of him unless he paid Rs 51 lakh.
The same number was used to call his father as well, reiterating the threats.
The extortionist also threatened to kill the victim.
The victim submitted WhatsApp call recordings and screenshots along with his complaint and stated that a fake WhatsApp group had been created to defame him using edited videos.
DCP West Zone, Vishwajeet Srivastava, said that an FIR was registered and a probe is being conducted.
