Lucknow: A gang that used to snatch chains and valuables from elderly women sitting alone outside their homes was busted by the SGPGI Police on Monday.
"The arrests came after a recent chain-snatching incident in Vrindavan Colony led to the arrest of three repeat offenders and the recovery of illegal firearms and stolen jewellery," said DCP South Nipun Agarwal adding that during interrogation, the accused confessed to forming a gang that deliberately sought out elderly individuals particularly women found alone outside their homes.
"They would snatch valuables and later divide the booty among themselves," said Agarwal.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sumit Chauhan, 20, of Nepalganj, PGI area, Vikas alias Kulhad, 21, of Telibagh and Ayush Shakya, 21 of Defence Colony in Telibagh. Police revealed that all three accused have multiple FIRs for robbery and possession of illegal arms already registered against them in the PGI and Alambagh police stations.
"Police also found multiple valuables and three illegal country-made pistols (.12 bore and .315 bore) and three live cartridges," said the DCP.
