A food blogger who became notorious for pointing fingers at non-vegetarians for their alleged role in 'animal cruelty' has again stirred controversy by posting a picture of her meal—Daal and Rice—and claiming that she is 'proud to be vegetarian'. Nalini Unagar, a food blogger, shared a photo of her food on X and captioned it, "I'm proud to be a vegetarian. My plate is free from tears, cruelty, and guilt." The post follows a similar one in June, where she shared a snapshot of veggie-packed fried rice, proudly declaring herself a vegetarian. Her comments drew massive backlash, including from actor Swara Bhaskar, who wrote: "Honestly… I don’t understand this smug self-righteousness of vegetarians. Your entire diet is made up of denying the calf its mother’s milk... forcibly impregnating cows, then separating them from their babies & stealing their milk."She also added, "You eat root vegetables? That kills the whole plant! Please relax with the virtue signalling just because it’s Bakr Eid! (Folded hands emojis)."
Here's how people reacted:"I don’t understand why it has to be about cruelty, etc. Everyone has their own preference. Would you ask a carnivorous animal to be vegetarian? Nature has created all of us in a certain way, let’s respect that and move on with life. We are built to consume both plants and meat… plants are also living things," wrote one user."Plants don't go through labour pain; animals do. Plants don't suffer from pain; animals suffer. Plants don't have brains; animals do," the food blogger responded. In response, several people also shared pictures of their non-vegetarian meals and added that they too were proud of their food choices.I'm proud to be a vegetarian.
