New Delhi: The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has announced the re-invitation of bids for the redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), with the project estimated to cost Rs 2,469 crore. This follows an earlier attempt in December last year, when bids were solicited for a Rs 4,700 crore project, which was scheduled to commence by the end of the financial year. However, the tender was withdrawn in February due to a lack of suitable bids.In response to this challenge, the RLDA has decided to divide the project into smaller parts and re-issue the tenders. The redevelopment plan includes the construction of two station buildings on the Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate sides, along with an air-conditioned concourse featuring arrival and departure plazas, a waiting area, lifts, escalators, and a commercial retail space, as per an Indian Express report.Decongestion of the area is identified as a significant challenge for the project. Officials emphasise that the redevelopment should not only improve railway operations but also enhance overall transportation within the congested vicinity. The vision for the station is to transform it into a central hub that integrates various modes of transportation, including rail, metro, and bus services. The redevelopment initiative aims to ensure convenient and hassle-free connectivity for passengers, aligning with the broader goal of making NDLS a facilitator for all transportation modes in the area.
