The UK train station that's getting a major £7.9m revamp and a new bridge

A UK station is undergoing £7.9million revamp that will see its aging footbridge replaced along with other improvements. Harlington station, which serves the village in Bedfordshire, will have its decades-old path over the tracks upgraded with a "modern structure designed to last for 120 years", Network Rail said in a .

The company, which operates, maintains and develops Britain's railway, says the new will also make future maintenance both more cost-effective and efficient. Network Rail teams will also be making upgrades at the station, including work on platforms 2 and 3 to renew platform surfaces, tactile paving and yellow lines, as well as other improvement.

The works began on May 12, and are currently set to be completed by spring 2026.

Network Rail says most of the work will take place during daytime hours, though there will need to be some night-time working, with no trains running, in June.

The lower section of Harlington station's car park will be closed during the project to accommodate construction facilities, according to the firm.

The remaining car park is expected to be very busy, so Network Rail recommends passengers use alternative parking, such as at Leagrave or Luton stations.

Shak Munshi, project manager for the Government-funded company, said: "This significant investment will provide passengers with a modern, reliable footbridge that will serve the community for more than a century.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause to passengers' journeys and are grateful for their patience while this essential upgrade takes place," he added.

Jenny Saunders, customer services director at Govia Thameslink Railway, said: "Harlington is a busy car park. So to help motorists, anyone with a monthly, quarterly or annual season car park ticket will be able to use the car parks at Leagrave and Luton stations at no additional cost."
