A stunning seaside city that perfectly blends millennia of history with seaside charm has been named the best September holiday destination. The data collated by easyJet revealed that the coastal city in Bulgaria, which offers beer for just £1.6, is a perfect place to visit this month.
Nessebar, often called the "Pearl of the Black Sea," located on Bulgaria's coast, has secured the top spot on the new 'Cheap Beach Index'. The city has been named the best-value beach in the new easyJet index thanks to its affordable hospitality and dependable shoulder-season deals on flights and hotels. Nessebar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its well-preserved medieval churches, cobbled streets, and traditional wooden houses.
Originally a Thracian settlement, it later became a Greek colony known as Mesembria, and over the centuries it absorbed Roman, Byzantine, and Bulgarian influences.
It's divided into two distinct areas: the ancient peninsula, renowned for its wealth of archaeological sites and centuries-old architecture, and the contemporary mainland, which buzzes with resorts, restaurants, and nightlife.
Visitors can wander through iconic landmarks such as the Church of Christ Pantocrator, embark on scenic boat tours along the Black Sea, or unwind at the nearby Sunny Beach resort.
Throughout the year, Nessebar comes alive with a vibrant cultural scene, hosting festivals, concerts, and exhibitions that celebrate its rich heritage and dynamic spirit.

During the survey, the experts considered 20 European beach areas that are reachable on a direct easyJet flight from the UK (nearest practical airport).
Close behind in the list is the Budva Riviera in Montenegro, which boasts a range of idyllic beaches along a 35-kilometre stretch of the Adriatic coast in western Montenegro, and the Costa de Almería in Spain, which is known for the unique Tabernas Desert and its golden beaches.
For each destination they priced a basket - local beer, an ice cream, a shoulderseason return flight, a midrange 3 star hotel night, an average familyoffour dinner and an average three-course couples dinner - with weights of 30% (hotel), 20% (flights), 20% (beer), 20% (family meal), and 10% (ice cream).
Kevin Doyle, easyJet's UK Country Manager, said: "With summer behind us, there is plenty of opportunity to still find great weather throughout the early autumn across Europe. With thousands of flights across hundreds of routes from the UK throughout September mean great value beach breaks are still available across Europe.
"Our unrivalled network of flights across the continent provides direct links from many UK airports to a whole host of great value, sun-friendly beach breaks on a budget. Our Cheap Beach Index offers a brilliant variety of value choices for passengers looking for one last dose of summer sun and fun."
One of the users wrote on TripAdvisor forum: "Old Nessebar is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The history, the architecture, and the views are all amazing.
"It really feels like you're walking through a living museum-with cobblestone streets, old churches, and cute wooden houses everywhere you look. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes with lovely sea views, and the seafood is generally quite good (though some places are overpriced).
"We had a nice lunch by the water and enjoyed wandering around afterward. That said, it can get very crowded in the summer, especially in the afternoon. Some parts felt a bit too commercialized-lots of souvenir shops selling the same stuff, and not all of it feels authentic. Still, overall, it's a charming place with a unique atmosphere. Just try to visit early in the day or off-season if you can."
Another one commented: "Old Town is a dive into the past. Walled streets, picturesque neighborhoods, delicious shops. It is really a very beautiful and atmospheric place. The area works mainly in the summer, so when we went (October) most of the shops were closed. We didn't regret it, just there wasn't the plethora of choices available in the summer."
