Piers Morgan has expressed his delight at one of the most quintessentially British moments of Wimbledon this year-a champagne cork drama that left fans laughing. The TV personality, 60, couldn't resist sharing his own very British take on the incident when a cork landed on the court. He posted his reaction to the uproar on X (formerly Twitter), along with a clip from the BBC coverage of the match. "How fabulously British," Piers said, alongside a Union Jack flag emoji. His post accompanied a BBC video featuring the moment an umpire warned Wimbledon fans against popping their champagne corks onto the court.

"Ladies and gentlemen, when you open your champagne bottles, please do not pop the cork onto the court," the umpire announced during a men's doubles quarter-final match. The incident had caused a brief interruption during play, much to the amusement of those watching. The clip, featuring a live shot of the match between Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash versus Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara, shows the umpire's warning.

This followed the sound of a champagne cork popping in the crowd, which disrupted the action on court.

As Glasspool prepared to serve, the cork's pop interrupted his concentration, causing him to miss his first serve and resulting in a second serve that was ultimately successful.

World No. 13 Amanda Anisimova was left fuming after her service game was interrupted by the unexpected pop of a champagne cork on No. 3 Court on Friday afternoon (July 4).

As the American pro was preparing to serve, the unmistakable sound of a champagne cork popping from the crowd interrupted her concentration.

Clearly frustrated, she snapped: "Why did you have to open that right now?" Despite the distraction, she won the next point, moving to 30-love.

The chair umpire, seizing the moment, politely reminded the crowd of the importance of silence during play, once again instructing them to "avoid opening bottles of champagne when the players are about to serve."

The incident became a talking point, with one BBC pundit declaring it "the most Wimbledon warning you've ever heard".

However, the crowd on No. 3 Court didn't quite heed the advice, as another cork was reportedly seen flying onto the court during Nuno Borges' match with Karen Khachanov shortly after.

Meanwhile, player Emma Raducanu had a similar experience, with a cork nearly disrupting her straight-sets win over Mimi Xu on No. 1 Court.

Emma, ever the good sport, joked: "I saw a champagne cork fly onto the court, so cheers to you!"
