Olly Murs was booed on stage in after making one admission - and offered to leave the gig, which came as part of his UK nationwide tour. The Dance With Me Tonight hitmaker, 41, brought his 15 Years of Hits tour to the M&S Bank Arena in the Merseyside city after originally rising to fame on in 2009.
Olly originally placed runner up to winner Joe McElderry, but went on to carve out a career in pop for himself with hits like Troublemaker and Heart Skips A Beat. Things turned awkward on stage, however, as Olly performed for his 'Murs Army' that packed out the venue.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Olly passed things over to his band and offered them the opportunity to "embarrass" him in front of his live audience. He told the crowd: "In this part of the show, I have absolutely no idea what is about to appear on that screen," while gesturing to the big screen behind him.
The chosen picture was one of him posing alongside the huge This Is Anfield sign outside 's football ground - which divided the audience of Liverpool versus Everton fans. Boos erupted from those who support , while Liverpool supporters cheered.
But things turned even more awkward as Olly admitted: "Of course, this will probably get the biggest boo of the night. I am a fan."
After receiving jeers from the crowd, Olly was giggling as he offered: "Shall I go?"
There were reportedly several emotional moments in the gig, too, as he remembered his X Factor co-star Caroline Flack while performing Dear Darling. He told fans: "I genuinely think about her every day.
"I know that feeling of losing someone that you love very much. With this song, I want you to think of those people and sing with me."
Olly also performed his new single Save Me, explaining he is welcoming the start of a "new Murs era".
