Manchester United are set to bank millions from a deal involving one of their former players due to a clever transfer clause. The Red Devils have already made a couple of signings since the end of the previous campaign, bringing in Matheus Cunha and teenage defender Diego Leon. They remain in talks with Brentford about a potential move for Bryan Mbeumo, who is thought to have agreed personal terms.
In terms of outgoings, United are yet to sell any players despite a handful of their current stars asking to leave the club. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia are said to be eyeing summer exits. They have been exiled from regular training sessions, only reporting to Carrington when the first-team squad have finished for the day.
United will hope to start making sales in order to raise money that can be reinvested into other areas. They have already earned millions of pounds thanks to a shrewd bit of business they conducted last summer.
Alvaro Fernandez, who the Red Devils sold to Benfica last summer, has officially joined Real Madrid in a deal worth over £43million. It will see United receive a significant windfall due to the sell-on clause they inserted when the defender left Old Trafford.
They will pocket around £7.5m, according to BBC Sport, in a welcome boost to their finances ahead of next season. It comes after they landed another £6m from Anthony Elanga's recent move to Newcastle United.

Ruben Amorim considered re-signing Fernandez in January, when he was scouring the market for a left-back to fit his system. United ended up paying around £15m for the services of Patrick Dorgu instead.
Those in power at Old Trafford could decide to use their extra funds to wrap up a move for Mbeumo, with Brentford seeking more money to seal the deal.
United will seemingly need to get things done quickly before the opportunity passes them by. Tottenham and Newcastle are said to be chasing Yoane Wissa and Brentford are reportedly unwilling to sell both players this summer.
The situation is likely to depend on whether United are willing to stump up the required amount of cash for Mbeumo, having already seen two bids rejected.
Brentford sporting director Phil Giles recently said the winger would be happy to remain at the club in the event United fail to meet their demands.
"There is significant interest in Bryan," he told Sky Sports News. "I think it's been documented and publicised about his current preference. I think, from what I understand, he's also if needs be happy to stay at Brentford next year as well. Let's see on that.
"I think our position is that he had an unbelievable season last year, we expected interest in him. If that deal is right, there is a deal to do. If it's not, he will stay. We've spoken to Bryan and it's not a given that he's going to depart this summer."
