The M5 has closed in both directions following a crash during the night, causing major traffic distruption.
An air ambulance was called to the collision.
The incident occurred between Junction 13 in Stroud and Junction 14 in Thornbury. All emergency services, including an air ambulance, are at the scene.
National Highways South West added: "Due to the nature of the incident, the road will remain closed for a while."
