Sparkes said: "During this spooky season, the town hosts workshops where visitors can create their own Halloween decorations, learn about Dutch folklore, and hear chilling tales of mythical creatures.

"It's a great opportunity for families and friends to bond while embracing the spirit of Halloween in a picturesque setting!"

She specially recommended keeping an eye out for engaging activities like pumpkin carving and spooky storytelling sessions while exploring this area.

The expert added: "The combination of rustic charm and Halloween festivities creates a whimsical atmosphere that makes celebrating here truly special."

Zaanse Schans offers visitors an insight into the traditional Dutch life in the 18th and 19th centuries while framed by stunning views of the Zaan River.

You'll find iconic windmills, such as the historic sawmill and oil mill, where you can learn about the milling process.

The area also features picturesque wooden houses, artisan shops where you can watch craftspeople create cheese, clogs, and other traditional products.
