Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer went incognito at the Notting Hill Carnival just days after pulling out of his side's 5-1 Premier League thrashing of West Ham during the warm-up. The England international has endured a frustrating start to the campaign as he was kept at bay during the Blues' goalless draw with Crystal Palace on the opening weekend before sitting out the West Ham clash with a groin injury.
Palmer has developed into one of the most dangerous attacking players in the Premier League since joining Chelsea from Manchester City two years ago. The 23-year-old racked up 37 goals and 20 assists in the Premier League during his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge. But he could become a victim of Chelsea's transfer policy, with Blues boss Enzo Maresca admitting summer signing Joao Pedro could be utilised in Palmer's favoured No. 10 position in the future.
Palmer attended the Notting Hill Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday as he took to Instagram to share a video and a picture of his day out.
The video included footage of people dancing and singing along to music in west London.
And in the still image, Palmer was pictured sporting a playful disguise of faux dreadlocks and a face mask as he joined in the celebrations.
The blockbuster star, who is usually instantly recognisable, tagged the picture with his location and included the caption: "Blendinggg."
Maresca gave an update on Palmer's injury in the aftermath of Chelsea's victory over the Hammers as he explained: "Cole, in the last four or five days, was not 100 per cent. Today, he tried to warm up, but he felt something.
"Probably [during the] Palace game he was not 100 per cent. But he is trying to make a big effort for the club, for the team, for the fans.
"Because he is really keen about the team. Tonight, again, he tried again. But it was not very good."
But the Italian was adamant that there is plenty more to his side than the talents of Palmer as he added: "The ones that they say that we are just a Cole team, for sure, Cole is our best player, no doubt.
"For sure, with Cole, we are a much, much, much better team. But I think we already showed last year, in two, three months, where Cole, unfortunately for us, was not 100 per cent, we achieved top four."
Maresca will be hoping for Palmer to make a quick recovery ahead of the international break. The Blues host Fulham in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, with their subsequent match coming at Brentford on Saturday, September 13.
