have reportedly submitted an eye-watering contract offer to win the race for Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners are seemingly ready to make Gyokeres one of their highest-paid players, which could create unrest among certain senior figures in the dressing room.
An intense battle for the Sweden international is poised to unfold this summer after a remarkable individual season. Gyokeres has scored 62 goals in 55 games for club and country across all competitions, and at 26 years old, he is coming into the prime years of his career. Clubs in the and on the continent are believed to have taken notice of the former striker's relentless output.
And Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is understood to be a particularly big fan. The north Londoners have spent the end of this season without a recognised striker. Even when first-choice centre-forward Kai Havertz is fit, there are still fans clamouring for an out-and-out No. 9 at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Portuguese news outlet , the Gunners are willing to shoulder a hefty bill to get their hands on more firepower. And they have reportedly submitted a contract offer which would net Gyokeres £7million per season after tax.
Amounting to just under £13.2m per year in gross terms, that figure would put Gyokeres towards the very top of Arsenal's wage bill.
According to , Havertz (£14.6m per year) and Gabriel Jesus (£13.8m per year) are the only Arsenal players currently on a higher wage. The lucrative contract proposal risks leaving a host of highly influential stars on a lower salary than a brand new signing.
Martin Odegaard (£12.5m per year) has worn the captain's armband for Mikel Arteta's side for the past three years. Declan Rice (£12.5m per year) has been one of the most reliable midfielders in the Premier League since signing from West Ham in 2023. And Bukayo Saka (£10.1m per year) is both a much-loved academy product and Arsenal's most dangerous attacker.
Putting Gyokeres straight onto a higher wage than all three may raise eyebrows in the dressing room, but it could also be what is required to win an ultra-competitive transfer race.
Sporting would reportedly be willing to sell him for as little as this summer - £25m less than his release clause. It could therefore come down to which interested party tables the most tempting package for the player.
