Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended a Village Agriculture Worker (VAW) in Angul district for allegedly taking Rs 20,000 bribe from an empanelled NGO of the government.
The accused was identified as Biswanath Das, VAW of Kadalimunda, Raniakota & Dhaurapalli GPs under Kishorenagar Block of Angul district.
Vigilance said in a statement that Das was nabbed while demanding and taking bribe of Rs 20,000/- from an empanelled NGO of the government to countersign the utilization certificates related to distribution of seeds and pesticides to the farmers.
The VAW was a member in the distribution group. After distribution, when the complainant approached the VAW, he demanded bribe of Rs 20,000/- to countersign the utilisation certificates for clearance of bills.
Left with no option, the complainant approached the Vigilance authorities. Following this, a Vigilance team nabbed accused Das while taking bribe Rs 20,000/-. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Das from DA angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
