Initially posted more than a week ago, but prominently resurfacing in the aftermath of the scenes, X-user TonyBlueblood suggested a friend was responsible. "My mate's just texted me there," he posted on social media.

"He bought 10,000 blue flares and spent the last 4 weeks taking the blue labels off them and putting red labels on them. I hope he sells the f****** lot."

Liverpool's carnival of celebrations did not appear too impacted by the antics however. Though, the shade of blue certainly stood out against a very red back drop.
