Netflix has finally dropped its first full trailer for The Witcher season four, following a series of teasers to whet fans’ appetites.
The new series is one of the most highly anticipated after lead star Henry Cavill announced his shock departure as Geralt of Rivia, with The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth drafted in as his replacement.
In the trailer for the penultimate season, Geralt (Hemsworth) draws his sword as he prepares for battle, with the footage heralding a new chapter for the fantasy drama.
A voiceover addresses the monster hunter: “Geralt, you’ve spent a lifetime battling monsters and men. Your entire being is dedicated to finding someone who you fear you’ve failed. Your Ciri.”
Ciri (Freya Allan) is then shown with the Rats after her escape at the end of season three, meanwhile, Geralt, Jaskier (Joey Batey) and others hoping to save her.

The Mages are battling the now dismantled Brotherhood and sorcerer Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), with Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) taking the lead against him.
Yennefer warns: “Something is shifting on this Continent” as she is locked in a fierce sword-fight with elf Francesca Findabair (Mecia Simson).
Amid all the epic battles, Jaskier is still throwing zingers as about as they venture through some “ominous” surroundings.
As the trailer reaches a head, Ciri finds herself thrown into mortal peril during a battle, sharing that Geralt fears he won’t be able to save her.
The trailer ends with Regis (Laurence Fishburne) declaring: “The Witcher is in a state of flux. You are becoming something new.” Ciri adds: “I want you to be reborn.”
The last shot sees Geralt in a state of transformation as the screen turns black.
Netflix has also shared a summary for season four, which reads: “After the Continent-altering events of season three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies.
“As their paths diverge, and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good…”
Season four will be comprised of eight episodes and see showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich leading the hit fantasy series again.
Despite the skepticism towards Hemsworth, the trailer promises an exciting new chapter in The Witcher.
Moreover, if the Netflix adaptation stays true to Andrzej Sapkowski’s original Witcher novels, then Ciri will be taking the lead and Geralt will become more of a supporting role.
Seasons four and five are being filmed back-to-back with the fifth instalment marking the final outing for the show.
Although Cavill has been replaced, the rest of the cast will be reprising their roles, including Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Allan as Princess Cirilla ‘Ciri’ of Cintra, and Batey as bard Jaskier.
This season also marks the addition of The Matrix star Fishburne as Regis.
Other returning cast members include Eamon Farren as Cahir, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold, Mimî M Khayisa as Fringilla, Cassie Clare as Philippa, Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz, Meng’er Zhang as Milva, Graham McTavish as Dijkstra, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, Mecia Simson as Francesca, Sharlto Copley as Leo Bonhart, Danny Woodburn as Zoltan, Jeremy Crawford as Yarpen, Bart Edwards as Emhyr, Hugh Skinner as Radovid, James Purefoy as Skellen, Christelle Elwin as Mistle, Fabian McCallum as Kayleigh, Juliette Alexandra as Reef, Ben Radcliffe as Giselher, Connor Crawford as Asse, Aggy K.
