Man Utd complete £60m transfer for player they're told 'is the last thing they need'

Matheus Cunha's "maverick" personality is not what Manchester United's dressing room needs, says Joe Cole. The Brazilian was the first of the Red Devils' summer signings, with £74million man Benjamin Sesko the latest.

After a bitterly disappointing campaign, Ruben Amorim has been given ammunition to improve his forward line, with Cunha, £65m winger Bryan Mbeumo and now long-pursued striker Sesko all touching down.

Cunha was the first to be snapped up, though, signing from Wolves at the beginning of June after his £62.5m release clause was activated. However, Cole, who starred in the Premier League for West Ham, Chelsea and Liverpool, believes the 26-year-old's attitude is a major worry.

"The thing that worries me about Cunha, and I think he's a brilliant player, fantastic player, wonderful goals and can do everything, but you do hear little things about his attitude," Cole told

"I wouldn't want to say he is a bad lad because I wouldn't want to say that, but he's a bit of a maverick and I've heard people talk about him being a bit of a maverick.

"The last thing that United dressing room needs is another maverick, there are mavericks everywhere putting stuff on social media and all that. You hear too much coming out of that dressing room so it's a gamble with Cunha."

Cunha landed himself in hot water last season, twice being fined and banned by the Football Association for misconduct. The first incident came in December, when he was handed a two-game ban and hit with an £80,000 fine for an altercation against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

After the full-time whistle, a scuffle broke out between Wolves and the victorious Ipswich players, and Cunha appeared to strike a member of the opposition's coaching team. His suspension was confirmed in January.

Later in March, Cunha was fined another £50k and suspended for an extra fourth game of a three-match ban after he was sent off for clashing with defender Milos Kerkez, now of Liverpool, in extra time of Wolves' FA Cup defeat by Bournemouth.

The Brazilian will be joined at Old Trafford by Slovenian striker Sesko, who, aftera tumultuous summer that also saw him linked with a move to Newcastle, was announced as a United player on Saturday.

Speaking immediately after penning a five-year deal, Sesko shed light on his decision, stating: "The history of Manchester United is obviously very special but what really excites me is the future.

"When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.

"From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions. I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben and connecting with my team-mates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together."
