A man has been pronounced dead after he was struck by a falling tree during Storm Amy.
The freak accident happened shortly after 2pm on October 5 in Barnsley Road, Upper Cumberworth. Emergency services rushed to the scene in response. Yorkshire Ambulance Service administered medical treatment, but despite their best efforts, the man couldn't be saved. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's death is not being suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Coroner ahead of an inquest into his death. A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "At 2.13pm yesterday, the ambulance service reported a tree had fallen on a man in Barnsley Road, Upper Cumberworth.

"The man received medical attention at the scene but was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner." On Friday, Storm Amy claimed the life of a man in his 40s in Ireland. It comes after a Status Red weather warning around 4.15pm on Friday afternoon.
Tommy Connors, was confirmed as the victim of the fatal accident. It has been reported that Mr Connors, from Letterkenny in County Donegal, fell from a shed roof that he was repairing. An Garda Síochána said they were treating the incident as weather-related.
Heartbreaking tributes poured in on social media, reports Donegal Live. One person said: “Rest in Peace Uncle Tommy, can’t believe it." Another commented: “God-brother, I hope you are happy wherever you are."
A local store called the Letterkenny Community Development Project also sent condolences to the family.
A spokesperson said on Facebook: We at Letterkenny CDP would like to convey our deepest sympathies to the Connors family on the passing of their brother Tommy Connors in a tragic accident during the Storm yesterday," they wrote. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this sad time.”
