Chris Eubank SENIOR arrives with son for Conor Benn fight in huge U-turn

Send Push

Chris Eubank Sr WILL be ringside for his son's fight with Conor Benn tonight.

The former champion branded Chris Jr "disgusting" for accepting a fight with Benn but has made a dramatic U-turn as he arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He was shown stepping out of his car on the big screen during one of the undercard fights - to huge cheers from the crowd.

The 58-year-old has been relentless in his opposition to tonight's main event which will see his middleweight son take on a career welterweight in Benn. Eubank Jr struggled with his weight cut yesterday, scaling 0.05lb over the 160lb limit and landing himself a £375,000 fine in the process.

That appeared to vindicate Eubank Sr's claim that this fight is dangerous, especially when. his son was not allowed to add more than 10lb overnight before a second weigh-in this morning. Eubank Jr came in just under the that 170lb limit to ensure he would not face further financial penalties.

Both father and son smiled as they made their way to the dressing room, a far cry from their acrimonious relationship which has dominated the build-up to tonight's fight. As well as the weight difference, Eubank Sr also took aim at his son for smashing an egg into Benn's face at a press conference in February.

"Who taught you that? Did Karron [Eubank Jr's mum] teach you that? Who taught you that? That is disgraceful. That is disgraceful. I'm going to be in your corner? I would never have been in your corner; that is a disgrace," he said.

And while discussing Benn moving up in weight, he added: ""It's against the rules what is happening, 147lbs fighting 160lbs is against the rules. When Kell Brook was made to fight GGG [Gennady Golovkin] it's against the rules. That boy [Brook] had his eye socket smashed. For promoters, it is just a game, but to the warriors, it is a way of life.

"We have to call them what they are, they are trash, they are trashing us. We are not trash, we are the standard bearers... If you are not clever and you are not noble, this [] will kill you, this vocation, what they call sport. If you don't play it right already, Conor, you don't have a career to enjoy."

Eubank Sr beat Benn's dad Nigel in 1990 before the rivals fought to a controversial draw three years later. Their sons have taken on the baton and will aim to settle the rivalry in north London tonight.
