Brentford eye two transfer deals but face Premier League competition for midfielder

Brentford are leading the charge for Feyenoord midfielder Antoni Milambo - but the Bees face competition from fellow clubs for the 20-year-old's signature. The Dutchman put his name up in lights earlier in the season when he netted three times in the , including an impressive brace against Benfica.

Brentford have identified the attacking midfielder as one of their top summer transfer targets and have already started laying the groundwork for a deal. Thomas Frank's side are yet to enter formal negotiations with Feyenoord but plan to start those talks swiftly at the end of the season.

In the meantime, they have presented their project to Milambo's representatives and have documented exactly where he'll fit into Frank's tactical setup. However, sources close to the player have stressed that Brentford are not the only English club in the running for the Netherlands youth starlet, who is expected to cost between £10million and £15m.

Milambo became Feyenoord's youngest-ever debutant at 16 years and 131 days old in August 2021 under and has made 25 Eredivisie appearances this season. Feyenoord boss Robin van Persie refused to be drawn on questions over Milambo's future earlier this week and indicated that he remains part of his plans at De Kuip.

Brentford consider strengthening their midfield ranks as among their top summer transfer priorities. There is also interest in Genoa's Morten Frendrup, who boss Frank knows from his time in charge of Danish outfit Brondby.

Frendrup's contract at Genoa runs until the summer of 2028 and he has captained the Italian side on multiple occasions this season in Serie A under Patrick Vieira, meaning they're unlikely to give up the player without a fight.

The 24-year-old is a defensive midfielder and has been scouted by a series of top Italian clubs including in recent months. Meanwhile, a decision is pending on the future of right-back Michael Kayode, who joined the Bees on loan from Fiorentina late in the January window.

Mads Roerslev is poised to return to west London following an unsuccessful loan spell with Wolfsburg in Germany where he suffered a number of muscle injuries. Wolfsburg did have a £5.5million option to sign Roerslev permanently but they have already passed on the opportunity.

Kayode has started the past two Premier League matches for Brentford, who have a £13.7m buy-option but there is also a mandatory clause in play that would be triggered if certain performance-related criteria is met. It's currently unclear if those will be met.
