Business Desk: After the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, there is a change in the diplomatic equation. During this time, it became clear that Pakistan's biggest support came from Turkey. According to reports, Pakistan relied on Turkey for drones and other military equipment against India. Due to this, there is an atmosphere of resentment towards Turkey in India and campaigns like 'Boycott Turkey' are also trending on social media.

In India, demand for products such as carpets, furniture, decorative items, olive oil, dry fruits, tiles, fabrics and traditional handicrafts from Turkey has been increasing, especially in urban markets. Apart from this, industrial machinery and agricultural equipment imported from Turkey are also used in India, but considering the current situation, there are signs of decline in the demand for these products.
What do business figures say?In FY 2023-24, bilateral trade between India and Turkey stood at $10.43 billion, with India's exports at $6.65 billion and imports at $3.78 billion. India exports products like machinery, iron-steel, oilseeds and precious stones to Turkey. At the same time, India imports mineral oil, flat steel, plastic and textile from Turkey.
However, between February 2024 and February 2025, there was a decline in trade between the two countries. India's exports to Turkey fell by $9.7 million to $461 million, while imports from Turkey registered a decline of $232 million to $143 million.
Tourism may also be affectedEvery year, a large number of tourists from India travel to countries like Turkey and Azerbaijan, but due to the current situation and protests on social media, the tourism sector is also suspected to be affected. According to travel agencies, there has been a decline in inquiries for Turkish tour packages in recent days.
