Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): From January to June this year, 3,742 women were raped and 120 of them were gang-raped. About, 2.79% cases of rape and 1.63% of gang rape accused were convicted.
This is what state government stated while giving a reply in the Assembly in response to a question asked by MLA Pratap Grewal on Tuesday.
The MLA alleged that the state government data reflected disparity. What is mentioned in the annual report and the answers given in the Assembly are different.
About 20 rapes and 33 kidnappings of women happen every day in the state. From January to June 2025, 3,742 rapes took place in which 905 are SC women, 1143 are ST, 1228 of Backward Class and 466 belong to general category.

Of them, 14,258 were from Scheduled Caste, 14,804 from Scheduled Tribe, 18,942 from backward class and 6,063 from general category. In 2018, 7136 rapes took place compared to 8518 in 2024, showing 20% increase in the cases.
The MLA said that in the annual report of 2024-25, 5592 rape cases were reported in 2024, whereas in the answer, the state government has stated 8518 cases.
“An increase of 60% is not normal and is not satisfied with the answer given by chief minister. Whereas in 2024, the conviction rate in the case of kidnapping is less than two percent,” MLA Bachchan said.
