When the skies open up over Mumbai, it’s never just about the rain—it’s about the city’s spirit to laugh through the chaos. This week, as relentless downpours drenched the city for the second straight day, streets turned into rivers, flights went off schedule, and red alerts dominated the news. But instead of sulking, Mumbaikars did what they do best: fire up X (formerly Twitter) and turn the flood into a meme fest.
Still, the storm outside couldn’t wash away the city’s sense of humour. Memes poured in almost as fast as the rain itself.

One user joked about losing their footwear to the flood.
Mumbai remained under a red alert on Tuesday as extremely heavy rains continued, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls, and even disruptions at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Airlines had to issue advisories urging passengers to plan ahead and brace for delays. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that all government and semi-government offices in the city would remain shut on August 19, while requesting private firms to allow employees to work from home.

The love-hate relationship Mumbaikars have with the monsoon was also on full display. One post compared the excitement in June when the first showers arrive to the frustration in August when it just won’t stop raining.Mumbaikar right now. #MumbaiRains #MumbaiRain pic.twitter.com/79LMu8LrBt

And of course, Bollywood found its way into the mix. A user dropped an Akshay Kumar meme with just one word: “Parallels.”People in Mumbai & Thane when it's starts raining in June
