The death of Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali seems to have taken a new and troubling turn, as police intensify their probe following a petition that labels her death as suspicious. Humaira’s decomposed body was discovered on July 8, 2025, in her locked apartment in Karachi’s Defence Phase VI, sparking a comprehensive investigation involving digital evidence, forensic audits, and fresh witness statements.
Citizen Petition Raises Murder Allegation
As per ARY News, the investigation, which initially leaned towards a natural or accidental death, was jolted when a citizen, Shahzaib Sohail, filed a petition in Karachi’s City Court. The petition asserts that Humaira was murdered and requests the inclusion of her family in the inquiry.
Citing video evidence from the scene and her strained family ties, the petitioner questioned the circumstances under which the actress, known for Tamasha Ghar and Jalaibee, was found dead. The court has since directed the police to treat the matter as a potential criminal case.
Police Retrieve Crucial Digital Clues
In a significant breakthrough, police have unlocked three mobile phones and a tablet belonging to Humaira using passwords noted in her personal diary. A laptop was also recovered, though access to it remains pending. Investigators are currently reviewing chat logs and other digital footprints from these devices to trace her interactions during her final months. Authorities have also initiated a forensic audit of her bank accounts to identify any irregular financial activity that might hint at foul play.
So far, statements have been collected from two individuals. Additionally, police have summoned the apartment building’s watchman and cleaning staff, and are gathering information from people associated with Humaira’s routine, such as her gym trainer and beauty salon staff. This is part of the effort to reconstruct her life leading up to her death. Officials believe her last known communication was in early October 2024, and her social media presence ceased in September 2024.
Autopsy Yields Limited Answers
The post-mortem, conducted after the body was found, revealed that Humaira had likely been dead for 8 to 10 months. The remains were partially mummified and skeletal, making it difficult to determine the exact cause of death. Forensic experts have preserved samples for further tests, including toxicology and DNA analysis, in hopes of gaining clearer insights. Due to the state of decomposition, medical authorities have reserved their opinion on the cause of death for now.
Interestingly, Humaira’s family had not initiated any legal proceedings prior to the discovery of her body. After the post-mortem, her body was transferred to Lahore, where she was buried. Her father, Dr. Asghar Ali, refrained from commenting on the autopsy findings, noting only that the formal process for claiming a body from police custody takes time.
A six-member special investigation team, headed by SP Clifton Imran Jakhrani, was set up by Sindh Police to explore all possible scenarios—natural causes, suicide, accident, or murder.
