Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Monday said Karnataka had become a lawless state citing an early morning incident in Bengaluru where an IAF officer was allegedly attacked by a few locals in an incident of road rage.
The video clipping of Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose narrating the incident with his bleeding face went viral prompting angry reactions on social media. He was on his way to the airport with wife Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, also an IAF officer, from the CV Raman Nagar area. An altercation between Bose and a biker led to an alleged physical fight.
The couple later filed a complaint with the Baiyyappanahalli Police, who registered a case.
Joshi, the union minister, said in a post on X: “An Indian Air Force officer and his wife was brutally assaulted on the streets of Bengaluru while traveling. Bloodied and injured, he shared the horrifying ordeal as he was stopped, abused and attacked simply for serving the nation.”
The Union Minister added: “When even those who defend our skies are not safe, what hope is there for the common citizen? Law and order has completely collapsed. Karnataka deserves better.”
DCP (East) D Devaraja said they tracked down the biker and arrested him. The Police, he added, had checked the CCTV footage and it was evident that the road rage incident could have been avoided by both sides.
