The UK government has issued an updated travel advisory for India following an explosion at the Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station in New Delhi. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has cautioned British nationals to follow local authority instructions and monitor local media for further updates.
According to the latest FCDO update, released on November 10, 2025, travellers are advised against visiting several regions due to heightened security risks. The advisory continues to warn against all travel within 10 kilometres of the India–Pakistan border, where the Wagah–Attari crossing remains closed.
The FCDO also advises against all travel to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, including popular destinations such as Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Srinagar, and the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway. Exceptions are limited to air travel to and from Jammu city and movement within the city itself.
In addition, the advisory urges caution for travellers to the north-eastern state of Manipur, recommending only essential travel. The region continues to experience curfews and intermittent violence following ethnic clashes that began in 2023. Sporadic incidents were reported between May and July 2025.
The FCDO reminded British citizens that travelling to areas under advisory could invalidate their travel insurance. It also encouraged visitors to take out comprehensive insurance covering all planned activities and emergencies.
The update emphasised that no travel can be guaranteed as completely safe and advised travellers to review general safety information, including guidance for women, LGBT+ individuals, and solo or disabled travellers.
“Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against advice from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO),” the advisory stated.
Travellers are urged to stay alert and subscribe to FCDO email notifications for real-time updates. Further information is available through the official GOV.UK website and the FCDO’s verified social media channels.
