IPL 2025 Betting Racket Busted in Delhi’s Narela, Two Arrested
New Delhi: On April 8, the Delhi Police received a confidential tip-off about illegal betting taking place in Swatantra Nagar, Narela. The informer revealed that multiple mobile phones and electronic devices were being used to bet on the IPL match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The police acted promptly and conducted surveillance near the identified location.
Caught red-handed during live match
Around 10:40 PM, police raided an office room near the Water Plant area. Two individuals, Rohit Kumar and Tejender Singh, were found engaged in live betting activities while the PBKS vs CSK match was being broadcast on a Sony LED TV via a mobile app named "OM777".
Betting equipment seized
Police recovered significant evidence from the scene. This included five smartphones with active SIMs, a brown "dabba" communication device connected to a microphone, a diary containing handwritten betting records, and the LED TV displaying the live match and betting app. A total of Rs. 20,000 in cash, all in Rs. 500 notes, was also seized.
Illegal under gambling laws
IPL betting remains illegal under the Prevention of Gambling Act and the Telegraph Act. The arrested individuals were found in direct violation of these laws, with clear documentation and electronic setups facilitating the betting process.
Delhi Police continues crackdown
This arrest is part of a broader effort by the Delhi Police to tackle gambling during the IPL season. Authorities have warned that more raids and strict actions will follow to ensure the game remains free from illegal activities.
