In fact, the UGC has released a list of 22 universities that are operating fraudulently. Enrolling in these universities will ruin their careers, as their degrees will not be valid. Importantly, 10 of the universities on this list are located in Delhi.
What is a fake university?
Under the UGC Act of 1956, a university can only grant degrees if it is recognized by the government. However, these 22 institutions were claiming to be universities without any permission. People spend lakhs of rupees on these scams, hoping to receive genuine degrees. The truth is that their degrees are useless. The UGC has clearly stated that the degrees of students studying under these institutions will not be valid.
Delhi witnesses the most fraud!
A hub of fake universities was discovered in the capital, Delhi. A total of 10 fake institutions were discovered here. Recently, the Institute of Management and Engineering, operating in Kotla Mubarakpur, was also found to be fake. Neither the Central Government nor the Delhi Government had granted it recognition. Despite this, they were awarding degrees like MBA and B.Tech.

- World Peace United Nations University (WPUNU), Pitampura
- Institute of Management and Engineering, Kotla Mubarakpur

UGC issued this advice
The UGC Secretary stated that they are constantly monitoring fraudulent institutions. Students are advised to only enroll in recognized universities. Thousands of students fall prey to these scams every year, wasting not only their money and time, but also their careers.
