Was the Zodiac Killer ever caught? Netflix series dives into the cold case

Send Push

Netflix has just dropped a gripping three-part true crime series titled This is the Zodiac Speaking - with some big questions set to be answered. The series delves into the chilling tale of the notorious serial killer who terrorised Northern California in the late 1960s.

Despite extensive investigations, no one was ever apprehended or prosecuted for the heinous crimes due to insufficient evidence, leaving the case unsolved.

However, this series aims to shed light on the identity of the murderer, featuring testimonials from individuals closely connected to the case.

While the identity of the killer remains unconfirmed, Arthur Leigh Allen was the prime suspect for the police. In the series, those who knew Allen personally reveal that he had confessed his guilt to them.

Allen was investigated by the police in 1971, but the inquiry didn't progress further as his fingerprints and handwriting didn't match those found at the crime scenes. A search of his trailer also failed to yield any evidence linking him to the murders.

In 1974, Allen was arrested for child molestation and served a three-year prison sentence, followed by five years of felony probation until 1982, reports .

In July 1992, a survivor of the Zodiac's attacks identified Allen from a line-up as the man who shot him.

Allen passed away a month later, on August 26, aged 58, from arteriosclerotic heart disease.

With no convictions for the brutal crimes, the case remains open, leaving the victims' loved ones without justice or closure.

The case was officially labelled as inactive by local authorities in 2004, with Arthur being the only suspect to ever be named by police.

In the documentary, David and Connie Seawater, who spent plenty of time with Arthur and said he was like a father figure to them, admitted they thought it was him who was allegedly the killer.

It was argued that the murders has stopped when he was arrested for child molestation and went to prison.

Despite police no longer looking into the case for more than two decades, conspiracy theorists have carried out their own digging, with multiple people suggesting there could have been more than one killer.
