While a victory was secured, a fresh claim was issued by City in response to the amendment of sponsorship rules that had been deemed unlawful by an independent tribunal. Leicester City, Brighton and Everton have also seen funds pushed into the club that way, with City claiming that route is treated differently to sponsorship deals with companies linked to club owners. In the meantime, a verdict from their other legal case against the Premier League is expected soon.
Over a nine-year period, City have been accused of financial wrongdoing, and though they vehemently deny all alleged breaches against them, the case went to court in late 2024. Over a 12-week period, evidence was heard from both parties, with a final verdict initially expected to arrive in March.
However, the timeline for an answer on whether City are guilty or not has been continually pushed back, with the general belief being it is likely to arrive once the current season has concluded.
While unlikely anyway, due to a potential re-trial request being lodged, City will not see the current campaign impacted. .
