Netflix fans 'gutted' as they demand reboot of cancelled mystery drama

Fans of Netflix's The Society are rallying for the show to get a second chance after it was axed in a shock move. The gripping teen drama, which hit screens in May 2019, had fans hooked and was all set for a second season.

However, COVID-19 struck a lethal blow, forcing to pull the plug on the series after just one season, leaving viewers devastated. There were hopes to kick off filming for a follow-up season in late summer 2020.

At that time, Netflix broke the news to Deadline, confessing: "We've made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This. We're disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID."

With gratitude, Netflix praised the teams behind the cancelled shows: "We are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the ."

Pitched as a modern twist on the classic Lord of the Flies, The Society followed baffled teenagers who find themselves in an eerie copy of their posh New England hometown, mysteriously missing their parents, reports .

The call to bring back the show was loud and clear in responses to a Vine query about which cancelled series people most wanted to return.

Skye Clark added her voice to the conversation, saying: "The Society, it wasn't that well written but I think it still had some potential."

Chloe Trowt chimed in with a strong opinion, saying: "1 million% agree I like the show, gutted we never got to find out what happened."

Amanda Russell shared her frustration, commenting: "I agree, I liked it though. I was getting into it and it ended with a cliffhanger and I hate that."

Victoria Rose added her thoughts, stating: "I just finished it because I wanted to see what it was and it was so good."

She continued, expressing her disappointment: "I'm so sad they cancelled it. Ended on a cliffhanger for sure."
