Jamie Redknapp delivers withering Man Utd and Chelsea putdown after Old Trafford draw

Jamie Redknapp branded a 'pub game' as he fumed at the two sides for their performances in Sunday's draw.

The Blues travelled to United hoping to jump back above and into third place. The Red Devils meanwhile have endured an awful season and .

Their first outing since that move was a largely drab affair with both teams disappointing. opened the scoring from the penalty spot with 20 minutes to go, before Mosies Caicedo equalised soon-after with a well-taken volley.

But Redknapp was left unimpressed with either team despite those goals. He insisted that the game had been a 'tough watch', though admitted that it was far from United's worse performance.

"Up until the goal it was a tough watch. It was like a pub game at times. From United's point of view, I have seen them play worse this season," former star Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"When I watch United, they do play off the cuff. Organisation will help, but when I played against the best sides they did have that chaos. They've always had that chaos, but I don't know if they've got good habits."

legend insisted that it was not only United who should feel disappointed though. He believes that the Blues were far from their best in a game they arguably would have been expected to win.

"How Chelsea have been playing, they are confident in what they are trying to do. Chelsea kept missing the passes, I think they will be disappointed, but on the flip side they are getting better," Lampard told Sky Sports.

"You want to see a bit more from what they showed at the top end of the pitch. Romeo Lavia can receive and find passes through lines. There has been progression since Enzo Maresca come in. You can see what he's trying to do."

While Redknapp was left unimpressed with the performance of both teams, United's interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy hailed his side for their display against Enzo Maresca's men.

“I am disappointed we didn’t win, we had the better of the chances in the game but overall the performance was fantastic. They left their all out there on the pitch," he told Sky Sports.

“It was a great moment, the goal, when Old Trafford explodes. Bruno Fernandes did well taking it and the emotion came out. This week has been special, I have enjoyed every second of it. I am here to help and will get behind the new manager and make sure the club grows.

“We are behind the new manager, everyone at the new club is focusing on the two games that are coming which are very important but then we will work hard to make this club better every day."
