Edu set for immediate Arsenal return after shock exit

Arsenal's departing sporting director Edu Gaspar could be set for an immediate return to North London should he take up a new job with Evangelos Marinakis' clubs.

As first reported by the Daily Mail, right-hand man in the transfer market, is set to leave the club this week after five years in the boardroom. The 46-year-old first arrived as a technical director before advancing to sporting director in 2022.

In recent years, the Brazilian has become integral to Arsenal's transfer strategy and played a key role in the purchases of and . Initially, there was some confusion as to why Edu would have chosen to leave the Emirates Stadium considering how well the club and himself have been doing.

However, reports that Edu could be leaving to join Marinakis' group of clubs. The Greek businessman is the owner of Olympiacos and also holds a stake in Portuguese club Rio Ave.

But notably, he is also the majority shareholder in . The East Midlands club have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season and currently sit third in the following a 3-0 win against West Ham United.

If Edu joins the Marinakis affiliated teams, he won't have to wait long to reunite with his former employers. After the international break this month, the Gunners will return to Premier League action by hosting Forest at the Emirates Stadium.
