Arne Slot was spotted following 1-0 win over RB Leipzig.
The Reds secured on Wednesday thanks to first-half strike, leaving them second in the standings only behind after the first three games.
But this week's trip to the Bundesliga outfit also presented the chance to catch up with his former Feyenoord captain once the referee blew his full-time whistle.
After making his way onto the pitch to shake hands with the opposition, the cameras soon picked up Slot smiling and laughing with Leipzig defender , whom he previously coached during his time in the Netherlands.
Under Slot, the pair reached the Europa Conference League final in 2021-22, lifted the Eredivisie title in 2022-23, before winning the KNVB Cup in the Dutchman's final campaign last season ahead of his switch to Liverpool.
While Geertruida made his breakthrough with Feyenoord long before Slot took charge in 2021, the 46-year-old can be credited with helping him turn into one of his nation's best defenders.
Able to play at right-back, center-back and in defensive midfield, Geertruida has become a regular member of the Netherlands international team since making his debut in 2023.
Ahead of Slot's move to Liverpool during the summer, however, , with many reports claiming .
Dutch newspaper even stated at one point that Geertruida would ‘love to join’ his now ex-manager on Merseyside and that the Reds were prepared to meet Feyenoord’s asking price of $32.5million (£25m/€30m).
A few months prior, the 24-year-old posted a photo on social media showing him in attendance at Liverpool's game with at the London Stadium, further fuelling speculation that he might potentially follow his manager to the north west.
Regardless, Slot's catch-up with Geetruida on Wednesday has got Reds fans wondering what exactly might have been said between the two, and whether any potential move to Liverpool in the future could be on the cards for the latter.
However, the defender only moved to Leipzig on deadline day during the summer, so he may have already missed the boat, but that's not to say he could be on the move again next year should Slot require his services at Liverpool - especially with the uncertain futures of a number of current defenders.
