Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh governor KT Parnaik on Wednesday visited the Madhavpur Fair at Madhavpur Ghed in Gujarat.
An annual cultural and spiritual festival, the fair commemorates the wedding of Lord Krishna and Rukmini, symbolizing historical and cultural connection between Gujarat and the northeast, particularly Arunachal Pradesh.
Parnaik, currently on a five-day official visit to Gujarat at the invitation of Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, praised the event as a unique initiative under the ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' programme, an official statement from the Raj Bhavan said on Thursday.
The Arunachal Pradesh governor said the fair not only celebrated India's rich spiritual heritage, but also strengthened its national unity by showcasing the diverse traditions of Gujarat and the northeast. He said the cultural convergence was a shining example of shared heritage, mutual appreciation, artistic collaboration and tourism growth.
Events like these provide a national platform for indigenous art, folklore and crafts, while it also boosts the local economy and reinforces India's cultural mosaic, the governor said.
The governor also lauded the Gujarat govt for promoting regional art forms, folklore and craftsmanship, encouraging inter-state cultural ties.
